EXCLUSIVE] LG V40 ThinQ Leaked Images Reveal Triple-Camera, Display Notch; Launch Date Could be November 16

August 23,2018

LG V40 ThinQ
LG’s current-generation high-end smartphones, the LG G7 ThinQ and the LG V35 ThinQ, were released in May 2018. Neither of these two devices have been particularly hit. The company was known for releasing smartphones with extremely competitive cameras, but the cameras on the G7 ThinQ and the V35 ThinQ were not good enough to compete with the likes of the Apple iPhone X (Review), Huawei P20 Pro (Review), and the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus (Review). Now it looks like the South Korean smartphone brand is already prepping for the launch of the successor to the LG V35 ThinQ.
We’ve managed to get hold of the first clear press renders of the LG V40 ThinQ, and it looks like the upcoming flagship device will come with all the trending smartphone features, including a notched screen and a triple-camera setup on its rear. It will finally be able to give a tough fight to the recently released as well as upcoming competitors such as the Apple iPhone X Plus, Huawei Mate 20, and the Galaxy Note 9. So, without any further ado, let’s have a look at the images of the LG V40 ThinQ.

LG V40 ThinQ: Images, Design

We have the images of the LG V40 ThinQ in Black here, and it looks like it will feature a glass back with a mirrored finish. At the rear, there appears to be a triple-camera setup with a single-LED flash, LG and V40 ThinQ branding logos, and a circular fingerprint reader. At the front, there appears to be a notched screen with curved edges.

LG V40 ThinQ: Features, Specifications

Starting with the LG V30, the company has equipped its V series smartphones with OLED screens, and there’s a possibility of the V40 ThinQ featuring a P-OLED screen with curved edges. There appears to be an option to hide the notch with black bars, similar to the option that’s available on the LG G7 ThinQ.
Adhering to the smartphone trend, the smartphone will also feature a notch in the display to make way for what appear to be two cameras and the earpiece. The last smartphone from the South Korean brand to feature a dual-camera setup at the front was the LG V10. However, the secondary camera could also be an IR camera that can be used for 3D facial recognition.
Moving to the rear-facing camera setup, the LG V40 ThinQ will come with a triple-camera setup with a very small bump. LG might have moved on from dual-camera setup on its existing high-end phones to a triple-camera setup to take on phones like the Huawei P20 Pro and the rumoured Galaxy S10. We do not have information on the resolution of the three rear-facing cameras. However, the sensor at the centre appears to be bigger than the other camera sensors.
There’s a power button and the SIM card slot are placed on the right side of the device. Volume buttons and a dedicated hardware key (probably to summon Google Assistant) are on the left side of the V40 ThinQ. A loudspeaker, a microphone, a USB Type-C port and a 3.5mm headphone jack (yes!) are present at the bottom. It is likely that the phone will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor since there’s still time for the announcement of the next flagship chipset from Qualcomm. The phone should ideally run Android 9.0 Pie by the time it releases.
LG V40 ThinQ: Launch Date
Going by the time and date mentioned on the LG V40 ThinQ’s press render, it is possible that the upcoming smartphone will be unveiled on November 16, 2018 (which is a Friday, as mentioned on the screen). However, launch dates can change and that has happened in the past, so we’re not completely sure if the phone will be unveiled on the 16th of November this year.
So, what do you think of the LG V40 ThinQ? Are you excited about the first triple-camera smartphone from LG?
